A majority of nurses at Cascade behavioral health the psychiatric hospital in Tukwila have been on strike now for months. The question is why KNKX social Justice reporter Lillian Fowler has details. There are many more patients who need in-house mental health services in Washington state and there are beds, that’s caused a number of private psychiatric hospitals to pop up. One of them is Cascade behavioral health in Tukwila. 75% of nurses are on strike there because they say management does not take safety seriously enough Mendor Miskin Sr is one of those nurses he says a few months back, there was an incident when trying to restrain a patient and at least one worker was seriously injured. That was the last straw for him. “We’re ready when safeties are granted – our safeties. I should be ready to go and to help patients, provided that there is a safe environment nurses at the hospital say want management to hire security and to adjust the patients. Staff retention at Cascade behavioral health says safety is a priority and that they’re negotiating with employees in good faith.
